WHY YOU SHOULD AVOID SWEATING AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT
As part of the regular post-operative procedure, you’ll need to gently wash your hair every day using a special lotion and medical shampoo for two weeks. It is important to do so because you want to avoid any bacteria developing on the scalp while it’s healing or having chemicals like chlorine (found in swimming pool water) that may affect the healing process.
So, how does sweating fit into all of this?
First of all, many different particles from the environment, like dirt and sand, can stick to a sweaty scalp and cause an infection. Secondly, sweating is usually associated with contact sports, workouts at the gym, or hiking on a hot day. These activities involve:

You can do several things to prevent sweating and avoid heavy exertion or anything that could negatively affect your hair transplant results during the first couple of weeks:
AVOID SWIMMING, BOTH IN THE SEA AND IN THE POOL!
The saltwater and pollutants in the sea, as well as the chlorine in swimming pools, can lead to an infection and should be avoided.
STAY AWAY FROM THE GYM AND AVOID HEAVY EXERCISE!
Anything that elevates your heart-rate up above 50-60% and causes sweating is off-limits for a couple of weeks.
WEAR A FISHERMAN’S HAT, PREFERABLY ONE MADE OF LINEN!
A loose comfy hat is a good way to protect the scalp from the sun; just avoid cotton hats.
STAY OUT OF THE SUN, TAKE WALKS IN THE EVENING!
Unless you absolutely have to, don’t go outside until the sun goes down.
DON’T USE YOUR HANDS TO WIPE OFF SWEAT – DAB LIGHTLY WITH A PAPER TOWEL!
Running a hand through the hair to wipe off sweat is a natural instinct, but try to fight against it and only lightly dab the head with a paper towel to keep it dry.
AVOID ACTIVITIES THAT CAUSE YOU TO BEND OVER OR TILT YOUR HEAD TOWARD THE GROUND!
Pointing your head towards the ground causes a sudden rush of blood to the scalp, causing extra bleeding and irritation.
WHEN IS IT SAFE TO START SWEATING AGAIN AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
In general, and depending on the donor area, you should avoid any kind of physical activity that could cause you to sweat for the first week. After that, you may engage in some light physical activity like brisk walks, household chores, and stretching for another week.
Two weeks after the procedure, you can slowly get back to your regular training routine at the gym or things like running and cycling.
However, if you play more intense contact sports like boxing, wrestling, and rugby, or run triathlons, you’ll need to wait at least 4-5 weeks before getting back to your regular training routine.
